The Literacy Education program offers certificates of graduate study, masters degrees, and certificates of advanced study in literacy education.  The Literacy Education program is designed to provide educators with a thorough understanding of literacy development, process, and instruction.

News & Events

Two current students and five recent graduates from the University of Southern Maine have been invited to share their work at the Northern New England Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (NNE TESOL) Annual Fall Conference, along with faculty member Dr. Andrea Stairs-Davenport, of the Literacy, Language and Culture Program.
The Marshwood Education Foundation Prize Patrol surprised its first Spring Grant recipient, Marshwood Middle School 7th Grade History teacher Andrew Rowe, on Friday May 15th. Mr. Rowe is currently pursuing an MSEd in Literacy at the University of Southern Maine and previously completed the Extended Teacher Education Program.

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards has awarded Sherri-Ann Lavallee certification, making her a National Board Certified Teacher. Lavallee prepared for National Board Certification during her Certificate of Advanced Studies program in Literacy Education at University of Southern Maine.
